Eventually all home entertainment equipment will go digital for sure !!!

There should be no doubt about it that eventually all home entertainment equipment will go digital because the digital recording/playback technology will not degrade over the time and because the signal strength will not suffer loss over each cable connector. All of the signal can be recovered after a certain distance of transmission.

Analog electronics usually provide a solution with smaller size. in the past several decades. However, due to the deeper sub-micron and nano-meter technology, memory size is no longer an issue for large digital system. Hard disks are going for tera-bits. Main memory size is well above gigabytes. These are changes which is now re-shaping the landscape for our home entertainment electronics.

Many of the electronics in our home are in use. What will survive and what will eventually disappear? Personal computer is the main computing resource at home. Therefore, it will not disappear. It may change its format to suit the needs for digital home. Television will be merge with PC monitor. There will be no PC monitor shipped with TV functions. Personal computer will be quipped with DVD player, CD player, high quality audio speaker, TV tuner, radio tuner. Therefore, stand-along DVD player, CD player, amplifier, radio set will eventually lose most of their market share. Some of them may even go to extinction. Personal computer will become the future king of home entertainment. All of the digital downloads, recording, playback will be done on a personal computer, even some of the signal sources are still in analog format for a while due to its richness in content.

Input technology remains as the most challenging part for a digital home environment. Studio commander, together with our Studio Input software, is an early pioneering research product which is targeted at such a breakthrough. Studio commander is a series of products targeted at solving the input bottleneck for digital home entertainment. It will provide user a flexible input device at home entertainment environment with personal computer becoming king of your living room.

One important observation is that the personal computer for home entertainment should be a personal computer with multimedia applications but not a specially designed media computer. Users for personal computer has been used to the user interface for personal computer. There is no reason to create a new user interface to ask for users to get used to it. Many software and hardware makers have committed such a mistake. Our studio product series is to truly support the mouse and keyboard functions without creating new special hardware or software requirements.
